5th Grade Overview

Fifth Grade Curriculum: 

Fifth grade is a big leap academically from the fourth grade. Math and Language Arts are challenging and students will be taking the STAR test for Science in addition to the CAASP in Language Arts and Math in the spring. The fifth grade team has very high expectations for our students which include coming to school by 7:55am, completing all homework and classroom assignments on time, and demonstrating respect for self and others at all times. The fifth grade teachers work very closely to ensure that we are all on the same page and that our students are receiving the best instruction possible. We use the following curricula for each subject area to guide us in our teaching, however always adjusting to meet the needs of our students and the rigorous Common Core Standards:

Language Arts: Benchmark Advance

Math: Everyday Math

Science: Foss Science

Social Studies: Harcourt

 Fifth Grade Supplies:

Each student should come to school on the first day prepared with the following supplies:

Essential Supply List

  • 1 plastic pencil box
  • 2 single subject spiral notebooks
  • 3 composition notebooks
  • 2 (plastic) 2-pocket poly folders w/o design
  • 2 boxes of facial tissue
  • 3 black or blue pens
  • 2 boxes of sharpened pencils
  • 1 pack of Expo Dry Erase markers (chisel tip)
  • 1 pink eraser
  • 2 highlighters
  • $5 Science Lab Supplies Donation

Classroom Donations:

  • 1 roll of blue painter’s tape
  • 1 package Post-It notes
  • 1 packet of wide ruled binder paper
  • 1 pack of baby wipes (for cleaning)
  • 1 bottle of hand sanitizer
  • 1 pack of 12 x 18 white construction paper

Parental Involvement:

Parents and guardians are welcome to visit 5th grade classrooms. Please remember to check in at the office first and get a visitor pass. Join our PTA and/or become a room parent.  Become a PTA Member

Some ways to help include: 

  • Join in or watch a lesson
  • Attend a field trip
  • Help the teacher with photo copies and other class organization tasks
