Dear LEAD Families,
As we look forward to six full weeks of learning and engagement before enjoying our two week break from October 12-23, we continue our focus of providing a safe and nurturing environment where support and challenge are important in our everyday lessons, both inside and outside of our classrooms.
BRAINS GROWING: L: Students grow in our Garden of Literacy with guided reading as part of their early grades language arts blocks and readers'/ writers' workshop at the core of all learning as students read and write critically, creatively and thoughtfully. E: Enrichment expands with our After School Digital Arts Program starting this week and Bricks4Kidz beginning on Friday afternoons in mid-September. Lunchtime enrichment is planned to debut after break with coding and gaming opportunities available. A: Academics are rooted in the California Standards with new ways of thinking; teachers are beginning to implement math talks and a mindset of thinking slowly and thoughtfully about math. D: Digital Arts skills expand for students as teachers have created grade level Digital Arts road maps that design integration of both technology and digital arts into the language arts curriculum. A school wide road map is under way!
REMINDERS: Parking: We realize parking is tight but please do not park in staff designated parking spots, in the parking lot of Shoreview Park or blocking neighbors’ driveways on Dale.
SPIRIT FRIDAY: Our first was a big success with Polka Dots popping up all over campus! Bow ties, ribbons, dotted hair and faces, socks, hats and even tights and shirts dotted the campus, making us all giggle and grin. Mrs. Smith was truly surprised with a polka dotted office when she arrived and continued her celebration all day with children visiting the office to show off their dots and wish her a very Happy August Birthday. Visit our new web site at: lead.smfcsd.net to see photos of the day!
STATE TESTING RESULTS: The state will soon be releasing test score reports with student /school scores from last May's testing. This was an entirely new format of testing for all CA students with the 2015 scores serving as a baseline for our interpretation and planning. Please refer to the District web site at smfcsd.net "Understanding CAASPP Test Score Reports" for a video in both English and Spanish that will teach you more about interpreting the results. We will also be providing helpful information on how to interpret the reports at our next Principal/PTA Coffee on Friday, October 2nd at 8:15 in the LGI.
EVERY DAY is an important day at LEAD and we ask that you continue to ensure your children's on time arrival to school after being well rested and having had a healthy breakfast. Special upcoming dates to note:
As we encourage a culture that supports change and innovation, our LEAD educators have a mindset of continuous improvement; we are going to be better tomorrow than yesterday!
