March 1, 2016

Dear LEAD Parents and Community,

The Month of March: March is here and we are looking forward to18 days of learning, enriching and then relaxing with our Spring break which begins on Friday, March 25, no school that Friday! Students return to school on Monday, April 11th. Today, Tuesday the 1st, we kick off the month of March by welcoming San Mateo Mayor Joe Goethals as our Principal for the Day along with 5th Grade student, Peyton J. Mayor Goethals and Peyton will meet our community for a reception at 8:15 in the LEAD Library and teachers at recess. They will also visit all of our classrooms, the Family Resource Center, PIP, judge the “Read Across America, Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss” Door Decorating Contest and meet our student Peace Keepers and OWL Ambassadors. Whew! That’s a lot to pack into a morning; we are grateful to Mayor Goethals for taking the time to visit our school and Peyton for LEADing the way!

Also in March, our Spirit Theme Days have been adjusted. This Wednesday, March 2nd is PJ Day at LEAD to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday and “Read Across America Day!” Grade level spirit points will be awarded to the grade levels with the highest percentage of participation. Due to our short month in school, our last Spirit Themed Day for the month will be on Thursday, March 24th. Watch for the Theme on our website: and a flier in next week’s Tuesday envelopes. If students choose not to participate in Spirit theme Days, they are to wear their uniforms to school. Also on March 24th, our March Principal/PTA/PIP Coffee Chat will be at 8:10 in the LGI. We hope you will all be able to attend.

TK/K and New Family Enrollment: Enrollment will continue through March 11th. Our TK/K Round Up on Saturday the 27th was a big success and we had record numbers registering that day. If you weren’t able to make it in on Saturday, please bring your required Registration paperwork to the LEAD office between 8:30 and 2:00 no later than March 11th. All information regarding the registration process can be found on our web site; ALL families, please return your “Plans for 16-17” forms by this Tuesday to your child’s teacher. Many thanks to our office staff Erika Hoole and Denora Smith along with Renee Skinner from PIP, Betty DiMatteo our Bilingual Para, and Ian Hoole, Junior at San Mateo High School for their presence and hard work on Saturday!

Enrichment: Cooking Classes: We are adding an additional after school enrichment program for students K-5, called, “CHEF IT UP.” The class offers students a “hands-on” cooking and learning experience right here at LEAD. The qualified team of teachers will create an hour long, fun-filled, cooking class for our students of all ages to enjoy. The use of easy to follow recipes, safe tools and gadgets, and all “PEANUT & TREE NUT FREE” ingredients, makes cooking fun for everyone! Students will prepare, enjoy and take home creations with each class. Classes will begin on Tuesday, March 15 in Room 20 after school. The 4:00 ACE Bus will be available for transportation just as it has been for our Bricks for Kidz classes and Academic Center tutoring classes. Bricks for Kidz will continue during the Spring on Fridays after school. Those classes begin on Friday, March18th. Please look for the fliers for both of these after school ENRICHING opportunities in this Tuesday’s envelope and also on our web site! A limited number of scholarships are available; please see me if you need assistance.
