Dear LEAD Parents and Community,

HAPPY DECEMBER: Here we are in the midst of parent teacher conferences, ending our first trimester and looking forward looking forward to the Holidays ahead. This Friday night you are all invited to our annual December PTA Cookies and Karaoke Event in the LGI from 6:00-7:30. Lots of fun in store for our families and friends. Please refer to the flier that is being distributed in this Tuesday’s envelope as well as our web site for more details. Thanks to all who attended our November Coffee Chat! Our first graders from rooms 25 and 26 dazzled us with their singing and movement to “Month of the Year” and Readers’ Theater, “The Sky Is Falling.” Both presentations gave children the opportunity to practice their oral language, and reading and rhyming skills. We also completed the “Safe Routes to School” surveys on our school iPads and heard an update from PTA on calendar changes for the rest of the year and volunteer opportunities. Our PIP pre-schoolers and first graders attended the “Nutcracker” last week as part of the on-going field trip experiences brought to us through our affiliation with PIP (Parent Involvement Project). Thank you PIP for all you do for our school and community!

TK/K REGISTRATION AND TOURS: Our LEAD School TK/K Registration is this Wednesday from 1:00-5:00 in the LEAD office. If you are a new parent to LEAD and in our attendance area or are a current parent in our attendance area with older students, you must register your new TK student (birthdate 5 years old between Sept 2nd and Dec 2, 2017) or K (5 years old by September 1st) on December the 7th. Please bring the following to begin the registration process: (one set of Originals and one set of Copies). Please make sure you register on time on the 7th as our staffing and numbers rely on this and as we are growing our school, we want to make sure we have room for our numerous attendance area families and transfer families.
• Birth Certificate or Passport
• Up To Date Immunization Record
• Parent Id (Drivers’ License or Photo ID)
• A copy of an Utility Bill within the last 30 Days (PG&E, Cable, Water, & etc.)

Our school tours continue and are a great way to see the magic that is going on in our classrooms and school. Join K teacher Angela Kollerer, Principal Pattie Dullea and other guests as we tour LEAD on Fridays from 8:30-10:00 through mid-January. Call the LEAD office to reserve a spot or just come at 8:30 and you can join in the group! Specific tour dates are listed on our web site at

WEEK OF CODE: Many thanks to our Digital Arts Magnet teacher Felicia Howell and volunteer engineers from Guidewire in Foster City for joining us during not just an “Hour of Code” but a week of introducing and challenging our students in the art of coding. Grade level specific coding opportunities will be available to our students grades TK-5 during their normal library period; resources for parents to build on and reinforce what our students did at school will be on our web site this week. Look for the “Coding” resources section to extend your student’s learning at home.

GENTLE REMINDERS: UNIFORMS: Please make sure your students are in uniform daily. Uniform guidelines are on our web site and in the office. Hoodies, sweatshirts and sweaters are to be in uniform colors with no graphics or designs. Heavy winter type coats and jackets can be any color but should only be worn outside and not in the classroom or at assemblies. SAFETY and PARKING LOT: Please do not enter the parking lot from Cottage Grove or even attempt to make a u-turn entering from Cottage Grove to Ocean View. If you choose to drop off on that side of the parking lot, only do so after parking in a legal parking place and exiting your child from the passenger door on the curb side, then walking them on the sidewalk into school, using the crosswalk if you come in on the west side.
We wish you all a wonderful December and Holiday season with your family and friends. Our appreciation to each and every LEAD family for your partnership and involvement in our school community.
